SO when trying to find a place to analyze i was struggling. Couldn't think of anything when i realized i had been sitting in the library for nearly an hour and still hadn't gotten any work done.
And then it hit me! Ill analyze the library. The library the seems to be the perfect place to come and get no work done. I find it almost impossible to study when you are in a room packed full of your peers. So i will be trying to see how much work people are actually able to get done while being in this very social environment. This space obviously appeals to us students because they have all the resources. Computers, printers, and desks all the tools you need to get whatever schoolwork done that you have. I will be trying to see why one of the most distracting places on campus seems to be so appealing to study at. I always come in the library with good intentions and seem to not get much done. Hopefully my observations show me whether it is just me or if it is the environment.

In Class: Ethical appeals
For my ethical appeal i brought in ForceFields. ForceFields keep your shoes fresh so you do not get wrinkles in them and keep them looking new. I feel that this is an element of ehtos because it shows that i like to look neat. They say cleansliness is next to godliness. I feel that if you look good you will feel good. The shoe protectors show that i actually do try to keep what i have looking fresh. I think it also speaks on the side of me that i appreciate what i have and want to take care of the things that i am blessed to have, while i strive to get the things i can't quite have. I am an appreciative person. I always try to remain thankful for what i have. It is also representative to my style. I like for all my shoes to look fresh. I feel the outfit doesn;t matter if you dont have a nice air of shoes on. The shoe protectors also give the argument that i like to do things in my shoes and dont want to have to worry about them getting messed up.

In class: Ideas
I'm unsure of the free place that i will be analyzing but a few places do come to mind. One place would be the new main. Upstairs in the Caf there are many places to chose from eating. It is presented as if there is a huge selection of different types of meals to chose from. Showing displays of five different types of cuisine. The seating is no longer in different sections like how it used to be in the old main. setting now looks like if it is established for the sole purpose of eating. In the old main there used to be allot of people just hanging out. You didn't have to eat in order to be in there. Now i think the argument is being made that they only want it to be a place for eating and do not want any hanging out. The people who work their walk around with chef uniforms to sort of give you a feeling of classiness in the main.

Change is Now
At the 44th president Barack Obama's inaugeration there were many arguments present. One major argument that was being pointed out by almost everyone present was the fact that this was one of the most historical days in our country. The argument presented i feel was the fact that we have taken one step closer to bridging the gap between all races in America. We as a country have become that much closer to finally becoming a completely unified america. This argument was also made strong by the way the networks focused on the crowd watching. It was by far the biggest crowd that has ever been present to watch a presidential inaugeration. This by itself showed what the importance of this event was to the american people. The crowds were not just filled with black people, but it was a mix of all groups of people gathered as one to be a part of this great day in America. This is an argument of our present. We have gone from being a country that has enslaved people to being one that has had a president of african descent.
Obama states that we have to go back to the God given promise. "All our equal, All our free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness." I feel that Obama is arguing that we as a country have strayed away from the goals that our forefathers had in store for us when starting this nation. He is arguing that we can no longer just do for a certain group of people but now more than ever we must come together as americans and take care of all people . He follows by calling us to start our work at rebuilding a new America and states that with action we can change. This argument has an emotional appeal. Every American is experiencing the harsh effects of our recession. Due to the crisis many Americans have experienced suffering. Obama makes every american feel as if they can help in the recovery as he lets us know that we all have a part in bringing america out of this crisis. This is an argument for us to make decisions that will help get us out of this mess.
The next argument i noticed was one that had logical appeals. When speaking upon our involvement and relationship with other nations. Obama reached out to all these nations. He states that it is time for us not to flex our military muscle, but to use it only when necessary. The argument present in this case is the fact that we might have become so comfortable being powerful that we just tend to march over anyone who oposes anything that America is for. He is telling us that this is not right and that we must only use our military power as a last resort when no other peaceful means seem to be present. This seems to be an argument to mediate, letting us know that we can no longer go around just stepping on any country that has different believes than our country.
"To the muslim world we seek a new way forward. Based on mutual interest and mutual respect.... Your people will judge you on what you can build, not on what you destroy." This was arguably one of the most important parts of the speech for me. This is a proposal argument dealing with middle eastern and Islamic nations. He is arguing that the ways of force obviously werent working and that it was not the right way to go about resolving a conflict. We were forcing things upon those people and were not respecting there way of life. By him saying this i felt as if he was trying to start over and heal our damaged relationship with the muslim world. Offering them a chance to be heard and to move forward from our past differences. This was a big step in the right direction to me.
The last argument was of where we will be in the future. Obama stated that he was the son of an immigrant who sixty years ago wouldnt be served in certain restaurants, but he today is able to take the oath of presidency. I think the argument present is that in just sixty years black people went from being unable to go in certain places to having a person in the highest position in America. So in sixty more years the possibilities are endless. I believe this argues that in sixty more years we can eliminate the pains of racism and all be one people.
This inaugaration was the most historic things i have ever witnessed and i was amazed and motiviated to see something i thought i would never witness in my near future.

In class: An Argument?
Argument, When i first came inot this class an argument to me was like a fight or a disagreement. When you hear the word argument you usually think of people getting into it or falling out amongst each other. Argument to me was always looked upon with a negative view. After reading chapter 1 i started finally to understand that everything truly is an argument. The way a person dresses or acts is an argument about there persona as a whole. I started to think of things as awhole like even things small as when every one stands for the national anthem we are all making an argument. No one speaks or dares to sit down we all show respect to the song and country the argument could be that we all our proud americans. The book really just made me look at everything as a different perspective because everything tends to say something more than what it appears to be. I now try to look and see what things are arguing and what argument they could be trying to present.

In class: Thursdays thoughts
My argument that i decided to bring in is an article on how bcs system works. This argument has been going on between fans for as long as the bcs has come into play. Strangely this is an argument that is very close to my heart becasue of the implications it often has on many college football teams seasons. The system shore enough seems to always leave someone upset. Every year we hear of a team that has equal credentials of the teams in the bcs games, but they seem to get left out. Every fan's worse nightmare is the bcs, but what else is there to do. This has to be the argument i brougth in because it is an unsettled argument. No one likes the system, but no one seems to knw a better solution. Just this year texas seemed to get cheated out of a chance to compete in the big 12 championship due to a three way one loss tie. So if things may have played out more farely texas might be the national champions. Bcs is an unfair system. People want playoffs but no one can determine a way to make a good playoff system that still will benefit the schools and its players in an equal way. What can possibly be the solution besides a playoff system college seasons might have to be cut shorter tho in order not to exceed into the pro schedule or superbowl that might not be good. There needs to be action taking place what about the teams in non bcs conferences who are better than the teams who are gauranteed bcs spots. come on the acc there not that good while many non bcs teams have way better sqads

Letter of Introduction
My name is Brenan Gordon I am a junior and a business major. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Lousiana. Even though my main reason for taking this class is because its required i still hope to come away from the class with the skills to make and take place in effective arguments. Through this course i want to gain the ability to clearly show and deliver my side of anargument. My primary means of writing consists of writing texts and emails msotly. I use writiting more as a direct form of communication. I also like to use writing to express my feelings in writing poetry when i have a lot on my chest. I feel as if writing is a major and necessary part of my life. Writing serves as one of my major means of communication. Besides leisure communication i tend to not like writing. In the means of academics writing is always looked at as a hassle to me. Wrtiing papers and thiings like that is not something i like to do. I think the reason i look at writing negatively is becasue its often a forced activity.
I have read, understand, and agree to all the terms of the class syllabus.
