SO when trying to find a place to analyze i was struggling. Couldn't think of anything when i realized i had been sitting in the library for nearly an hour and still hadn't gotten any work done.
And then it hit me! Ill analyze the library. The library the seems to be the perfect place to come and get no work done. I find it almost impossible to study when you are in a room packed full of your peers. So i will be trying to see how much work people are actually able to get done while being in this very social environment. This space obviously appeals to us students because they have all the resources. Computers, printers, and desks all the tools you need to get whatever schoolwork done that you have. I will be trying to see why one of the most distracting places on campus seems to be so appealing to study at. I always come in the library with good intentions and seem to not get much done. Hopefully my observations show me whether it is just me or if it is the environment.

interesting choice. Do you think that the design of the space makes studying less possible? It seems to me that because the library has all of the resources students need, they arn't doing much more to appeal to students. But perhaps they are.
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen an excellent public space. The library is central to the TCU community, and it seems that everyone uses it in a different capacity. I encourage you to consider ALL of these groups (students, staff, faculty) and how they use the library (research, study space, meetings, etc.). Additionally, you refer to the social spaces in the library-- and there are quite a few-- but there are also some spaces that are completely silent and designed for solitary work. There's lots to explore, so make sure you take detailed notes and use them to make meaning about the space.
